What is
Leverage and Margin

Margin and leverage are two concepts that are closely connected in investing and trading. Margin allows investors to borrow money to increase their trading position, while leverage refers to the use of borrowed capital to amplify potential returns.

When an investor uses leverage, they are essentially utilizing borrowed funds to control a larger position than they could with their own capital alone. However, in order to use leverage, investors must meet certain margin requirements. Margin requirements specify the percentage of the total trade value that the investor must personally fund, while the remaining amount is borrowed.

Higher leverage ratios require lower margin requirements, meaning that the investor can control a larger position with a smaller portion of their own capital.
